Reclaiming our traditional practices
This months Te Pātaka kaupapa looks to grow our understanding of tangihanga With practical insights, lived experiences, and tikanga to support whānau and in the reclamation of our traditional practices hosted by our own Kelly Henare.
Our first speaker, Missy Hemana (Ruapōtaka Marae), shares her experience of weaving waka ma moe, the vessel that returns our loved ones to their tūpuna. Her kōrero focuses on the role of mahi raranga in tangihanga, the importance of connection.
Our second speaker, Hera Pierce (Mercy Hospital) will speak on tangihanga whakahaumanu, embedding tikanga Māori in healthcare and addressing funeral poverty. Her kōrero covers practical ways to create choice, support planning ahead, and uphold mana in end-of-life care.
This is for anyone involved in tangihanga, whānau, kaimahi, haukāinga, or health professionals.
