Teacher PD: Chihuly in the Botanic Garden
Event description
Chihuly in the Botanic Garden is an opportunity for students of all ages to come and experience a South Australian exclusive event. We invite you to join the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Education team as well as Makers Empire to explore the exhibition, take part in hands on activities and explore the different ways you can engage your learners with this spectacular exhibition.
Hear from the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Education Team on educator led workshops and self-guided experiences that are available to schools throughout term 1 2025. Visit In Full Colour: Dale Chihuly held in the Bicentennial Conservatory and discover how your students can engage with the competition, Moore Critters, which is available to schools and students until the end of the exhibition. Moore Critters is an exciting partnership between the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium and South Australian glass artist Tom Moore, supported by the Jam Factory. Each month, Tom Moore is selecting a winning entry to make out of glass. The winners get to see their drawing and glass creature on display in the Bicentennial Conservatory and get to keep the sculpture at the end of the exhibition!
Hear from Makers Empire on how your learners can engage with the design thinking course, Watching Glass Grow. This challenge course has been developed in partnership with the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium to encourage students to look to nature as inspiration to create art, just like Dale Chihuly and a range of other artists! Hear about design thinking, engage with the 3D modelling program and learn about the student showcase running in 2025!
Teachers will need to bring a laptop or iPad with the Makers Empire App already downloaded. If you do not have Makers Empire on your device, you can download it for free, here www.makersempire.com/download
Next, enjoy a selection of hands on, art-based activities in the Garden, led by our Botanical Educator and experience Chihuly in the Botanic Garden from the perspective of your learners!
