Event description

Pack a hat, your walking shoes, and get ready to unlock the potential of the Botanic Gardens as a learning experience that stretches across curriculum areas!

Let our expert Botanical Educators guide you through the Gardens and be inspired with fresh ideas on how to help your students connect with nature.

You will participate in three education experiences and get to be a student for the day! Join us on our most popular trail, Plant Adaptations and explore how flora and fauna have adapted to extreme biomes. Our new hands on, STEM experience, Wetlands Nature Detectives, asks learners to solve an ecological mystery involving macroinvertebrates, native bird life and the yabbies that call First Creek Wetlands home! You will finish the day with a brand-new Biomimicry workshop that you can run in your classrooms with our resources available on our online learning hub.

Apply your learnings back in your classrooms, your school gardens or during your next visit to the Botanic Gardens to ignite your students’ sense of wonder, curiosity and love of learning.

Participating educators will enter a draw to win a deck of our brand-new curious by nature cards and a copy of the 'Kitchen Garden, A Beginner's Guide' book by Bruce Morphett.

The content presented across the trails will be relevant to HASS, Geography, Science, STEM, Creative Arts and Sustainability across all year levels in the curriculum.

This professional learning session will support you in demonstrating the following AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teacher:

1.2 Understand how students learn
2.1 Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

A certificate will be provided with 4-hours professional development credit.
