Boys to men in a changing world: challenges, strategies and why it matters
Hale School is pleased to host a special professional learning opportunity for teachers who work with boys, either in single-sex or co-educational settings. The workshop will provide a global and national perspective on the challenges facing boys, and outline principles and strategies that teachers can draw upon in their daily practice.
Presenters
Tom Batty is Executive Director of the International Boys’ Schools Coalition (IBSC). The IBSC is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to the education and development of boys worldwide, and the professional growth of those who work with them. Tom has worked in co-educational and boys’ schools, holding significant teaching and leadership roles in New Zealand, the UK and Australia, most recently as Principal of Scotch College in Melbourne.
Peter Coutis is Deputy Headmaster of Hale School and a member of the IBSC’s Research Committee. Peter has taught and conducted research in tertiary and secondary educational settings, including significant stints in co-educational and all boys’ schools.
Date: Tuesday 19th March
Time: Registration from 10am for 10.30am start. 12pm finish followed by lunch.
Venue: Cruikshank Gregg Lecture Theatre, Hale School
Cost: $200 per school (up to 6 attendees) or $75 individual ticket. Lunch provided.
Community Forum
Teachers are also invited to attend the Hale community forum event at 6.30pm on the Monday evening. This community event will be an engaging discussion with experts around the challenges facing boys in a changing world. The expert panel will offer strategies to engage and help boys to learn and grow, in and out of school.
Panellists include Mr Tom Batty (Executive Director, International Boys’ Schools Coalition), Mr Dean Dell’Oro (Headmaster, Hale School), Dr Nikki Panotidis (developmental paediatrician) and Mr Tom Barrass (AFL footballer).
Light supper provided.
