Tech in the Field 2026

A BioBlitz...is an intense period of biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within a designated area. Groups of scientists, naturalists and volunteers conduct an intensive field study over a continuous time period.

Join us for "Tech in the Field," a weekend workshop on environmental data collection tools.

The Tech in the Field event provides practical training on technology used for environmental data collection. Participants will gain hands-on experience with GPS navigation and geotagging, biodiversity tracking via iNaturalist, and mapping tools like Google Maps, Avenza, and QTopo. The session also covers field equipment, including clip-on lenses, thermal imaging devices and UV torches.

Additionally, the group will discuss advanced hardware—such as drones, wildlife cameras, and acoustic recorders—and review software like the Queensland Globe and Atlas of Living Australia within the context of the Queensland Regional Ecosystems Framework. Join us for a weekend of immersive field learning.
