Artist bio

ReVerse Butcher is a Ballarat-based interdisciplinary new media artist. Spanning a twenty-year career, her practice focuses on a digital-traditional hybrid approach—merging analogue painting, drawing, and text with immersive and VR technologies to investigate themes of dis/embodiment, language, and perception. She constructs monumentally scaled figurative sculptures and spatial environments natively in Virtual Reality, developing custom workflows to challenge traditional exhibition conventions. She will use any medium necessary to subvert reality until it is less dull or oppressive.
Her multi-platform works combine virtual filmmaking, projection mapping, world building, and sound composition to adapt to diverse civic, gallery, and metaverse contexts. Her projects have secured significant international recognition, including winning Best Art Experience at Raindance Immersive 2025 for The Continuous Present, and featuring in VMoVA’s "What is Virtual Art" at Venice Immersive 2025 (La Biennale di Venezia), where her VR sculpture "Circle Cubed" contributed to over 30,000 global visits. Her original art, music, and poetry WebXR project "The Last Stanza", was commissioned through the HTC VIVERSE Creator Program in 2025, and exhibited at the NewImages Festival in Paris, and AWE 'I, Spatial' Art Festival in California, in 2026.
