Event description
Sit under a rising full Moon as we explore the world to which humanity is returning. In the next ten years NASA's Artemis missions will put the first woman and the first person of colour on the Moon, along with a permanent base. Western Australia is playing its part in this historic step for humanity.
That's why we're going to the Moon on 24 November. Join us to hear four world-premiere TEDx talks from:
- Dr Mark Micire A robotics engineer who has led NASA's Intelligent Robotics Group and is now Principal Engineer on Australia's bid to build the Trailblazer lunar rover for NASA's Artemis program.
- Professor Gretchen Benedix An Astro-Geologist making the most detailed maps of the Moon with the aid of cutting-edge machine learning.
- Dr Benjamin Kaebe An aerospace engineer who wants Western Australia to be a global leader in heavy launch space ports. We won't get to the Moon if we don't get off Earth.
- Matt Woods An expert eclipse hunter who has streamed six eclipses for timeanddate.com and been part of NASA's Lucy Mission to explore the Trojan asteroids.
Because the Quarry Amphitheatre is open-air, we'll sit picnic-style under the stars as a full Moon rises over the stage. Come early and bring your picnic, or just come for the show.
- Gates open at 6pm: Seating is unreserved.
- Moon runs 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with interval
