Description
Wired for Reward: Understanding Why Teens Develop Addictive Behaviours
Smartphones. Vaping. Gaming. Social media. Alcohol and other drugs. Why do some young people seem drawn to unhealthy habits and addictive behaviours?
In this practical workshop, you'll discover why adolescence is a time of increased risk-taking and reward-seeking, learn to recognise the early signs that a young person may be developing unhealthy habits, and explore practical, evidence-informed strategies to respond with confidence. You'll leave with communication tools and practical ideas to help your teenager develop healthier habits that support their wellbeing now and into adulthood.
Your presenters:
Jade McDowall - Child and Family Psychologist. Jade has her own private practice, and also leads the Centre of Wellbeing at a St Bede's College in Christchurch
Ollie Flett - Youth Tutor. Ollie brings lived experience insights and perspectives across gaming, internet use and marijuana to the conversation.
