Teen Wild Trails: Estuary Hike
Description
In this easy level adventure, we will hike for about 3 miles in an estuary habitat at Emerson Point Preserve in Palmetto, FL. Please wear clothing appropriate for bring in the outdoors. We recommend a water bottle, sun protection such as a hat and sunscreen and insect repellent.
Teen Wild Trails is an adventure club for environmentally passionate teens, ages 13-17, to explore Manatee County’s habitats and resources in partnership with Big Waters Land Trust. We will be meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of select months to explore a new wild trail on the county map. Adventures will last around 4 hours excluding drive time. All participants should be able to keep up with the physical demands of being outdoors in Florida. This is a drop off program. Adventures are limited to 10 participants. Club members will be accompanied by two staff members knowledgeable in Wilderness Survival, First Aid, CPR and AED.
Code of Conduct
All participants are subject to the Teen WT Code of Conduct. By registering for this event, participants -
will agree to:
Respect my fellow participants and instructors.
Follow all safety guidelines.
Clean up after myself.
Treat wildlife and the natural environment with respect.
Be honest, kind, and helpful.
Be responsible for my words and actions.
Keep my hands to myself.
Respect the property of others and program equipment.
will NOT:
Name-call, use offensive language, or profanity.
Cause intentional harm to another participant.
As a consequence of violating these rules:
Strike 1: Participants will be issued a warning.
Strike 2: Talk with parents about behavior.
Strike 3: Participant will be expelled from program.
There is zero tolerance for physical violence against staff or another participant. Immediate dismissal of participant.

Activity Level Scale
EASY: Normal physical exercise outdoors. Hikes under 5 miles. Paddles with the current or a short length, around 2 miles or less.
MEDIUM: Longer hike or paddle on variable terrain. The ground may be uneven, and participants might trek off the trail. Kayaks may have to be portaged.
CHALLENGING: Long hike or paddle. Hike over 5 miles long. Paddles over 2 hours or a long distance. The ground may be uneven, and participants might trek off the trail. Kayaks may have to be portaged.
