Event description

Melbourne has lived many lives, each layer contributing to the city's rich heritage. By amplifying experiences and revealing both visible and hidden histories, we can foster a deeper understanding of Melbourne’s past, its ongoing evolution and connect people more deeply to place.

In partnership with City of Melbourne, Open House Melbourne is presenting a series of talks, tours and workshops as part of the community consultation for the Draft Melbourne Heritage Strategy: Stories of People and Place.

Join Tania Davidge, Executive Director, Open House Melbourne in conversation with Jason Eades, Director Aboriginal Melbourne, City of Melbourne, Mark Wang, CEO, Museum of Chinese Australian History and others, as they share and unpack the relationship of storytelling to heritage.

Stories of Heritage: A Panel Conversation highlights key stories that have shaped Melbourne and explores how storytelling can connect us to our visible heritage and the histories that might be hidden from view.

In early 2024, City of Melbourne consulted with the community to learn more about how they can better understand, communicate and interpret people’s heritage values. This feedback informed the Draft Melbourne Heritage Strategy: Stories of People and Place.

This program is designed to share and unpack the City's key heritage priorities—and invite you to contribute your perspective on what heritage should look like in the future.
