Tend: An inclusive contact improvisation dance workshop with Astrid Visser
Event description
This one and a half hour facilitated contact improvisation dance workshop is a fantastic starting place for beginners of all body types, ages, genders, abilities and ethnicities. If you have a body, love to move, and have a willingness to connect with others physically then this workshop could be for you!
You will be guided through an embodied connection to the space, connecting with self, and parts of ourselves that need tending to. Gentle connection points, and easy and safe techniques for building a dance in connection will be introduced.
If you are an experienced, highly physical contact improvisation dancer or prefer fast paced, high energy dances this may not be the event for you. The intention is that this is a safe space for all bodies curious about dance and connection including first-time dancers.
Please wear clothing that is easy to move in, and that covers the body enough to make sure everyone has a comfortable dance. You will be asked to add some masking tape to your clothing during the dance, so please make sure you're wearing something that won't be damaged by this.
Consent for connection, and how to navigate this on the dance floor will be discussed. Connection of a sexual nature is not the intention of the workshop and anyone who is unsafe in the space may be asked to leave.
If you have a significant physical limitation please contact Astrid prior to the workshop to make sure we have any necessary adaptations catered for. There is lift access, but the size and doors may limit access for some wheelchair users, but lets chat and see if we can make this event as accessible as possible.
Tickets for this event are limited to 12 per session to allow for a spacious exploration.
