Ōtepoti Dunedin Whānau Refuge Charity Auction
Event description
The Ōtepoti Dunedin Whanau Refuge Charity Auction is one event of a series of events organised by law students of the University of Otago. The fundraising appeal raises money for the Ōtepoti Dunedin Whanau Refuge (formally Womens Refuge) who support women and children in the Ōtepoti community who are experiencing family violence. In Aotearoa New Zealand, 1 in 3 women have experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime. This statistic includes physical and/or sexual violence, alongside psychological abuse. They provide advocacy, safehouses, necessities, and a variety of support services for those in need.
Last year we were able to raise $67,000 of which $37,000 came from the Charity Auction. It was night full of fun with a number of incredible items and experiences to be auctioned off. The other events in the fundraising appeal include a bake sale, charity gig, sample sale and quiz night.
