  10. IN-PERSON Small Group - Wednesdays: Authors Hub - 9:00–10:30 ticket

Every great story begins with a single idea. Learn how to turn yours into something unforgettable. Authors Hub is where imagination meets the craft of storytelling. Welcoming new and continuing participants, no previous experience is needed — everyone can contribute ideas, develop skills and discover their creative voice. In a relaxed, collaborative space, young writers create their own original stories while exploring character development, believable worlds, dialogue, conflict, emotion and the techniques that make storytelling memorable. Rather than focusing primarily on spelling and grammar, participants develop the deeper skills needed to write with originality, confidence and purpose. Participants can also choose to contribute to the group’s evolving original animated television series, developing characters, storylines, relationships, themes and ideas alongside other young creators. Authors Hub complements Life Stories Through the Film Lens and MAD (Media, Arts & Design) Creators, creating a connected journey from understanding stories to writing and bringing them to life. Participants can explore character, psychology and visual storytelling through film, apply these insights to their own characters and stories in Authors Hub, then extend their ideas through film, animation, art and design in MAD Creators. Together, the programs deepen creative thinking, storytelling skills and confidence while allowing ideas and learning to grow across different creative forms.

  11. IN-PERSON Small Group - Wednesdays: Life Stories Through the Film Lens - 11:00–12:30 ticket

Discover the hidden layers behind every great story — and what they can reveal about life, relationships and the way we think. Life Stories Through the Film Lens transforms movies, television and storytelling into an engaging journey of discovery. Welcoming new and continuing participants, no previous involvement is needed — every film and discussion offers a fresh opportunity to contribute and explore. In a relaxed, comfortable space, participants become active viewers, pausing to question and decode creative choices. They’ll explore character psychology, relationships, motivation and emotion alongside cinematography, dialogue, music, symbolism, themes and visual storytelling. Building on last term’s exploration of films including The Truman Show, Matilda and Nimona, next term will introduce new films, scenes and ideas shaped by the group’s interests. Participants will also think like creators — reimagining storylines, developing characters and considering how they might approach stories as writers or filmmakers, while building their own toolbox of creative techniques and inspiration. Life Stories Through the Film Lens naturally complements Authors Hub and MAD (Media, Arts & Design) Creators, creating a connected journey from understanding powerful stories to creating their own. Participants can take insights about character psychology, story structure and visual storytelling discovered through film into Authors Hub, where they develop their own characters and narratives, then extend those ideas through film, animation, art and design in MAD Creators. Together, these programs deepen creative thinking, storytelling skills and confidence while showing young people how ideas can evolve across different creative forms.

  13. IN-PERSON Small Group - Wednesdays: Woodwork - 9:00–10:30 ticket

Build more than projects. Build confidence, capability and skills for life. Woodwork is a hands-on, low-demand maker experience where young people develop practical skills, creativity and confidence at their own pace, making it suitable for diverse learning profiles and experience levels. Across the 10-week program, participants complete two projects. Timber sculpting and carving explores translating drawings and existing forms into three dimensions, cutting and roughing out timber, shaping, refining and finishing. Participants then move into functional furniture making, creating a timber stool while developing measuring, marking, cutting, joinery and assembly techniques. Along the way, they gain experience using traditional hand and power tools, including saws, chisels, files, knives, Dremel rotary tools, engravers and sanding equipment, with safe workshop practices embedded throughout. Beyond craftsmanship, Woodwork develops patience, independence, resilience, problem-solving and confidence — practical capabilities young people can carry into everyday life, further learning and future pathways. A space to learn by doing, create with purpose and discover just how capable you can become. Woodwork is the perfect foundation for our Innovation Pathway, alongside Digital Design & 3D Printing and STEAMakers. Together, these programs encourage participants to think like designers, engineers and innovators—developing practical skills, creative confidence and the ability to turn ideas into real-world solutions. Woodwork provides the craftsmanship and hands-on making skills that naturally complement the engineering, construction, invention and problem-solving explored throughout the pathway.

  15. IN-PERSON Small Group - Wednesdays: STEAMakers - 1:00–2:30 ticket

Ready for Take-Off? Explore the World of Flight! STEAMakers awakens young curious minds through asking bigger questions, solving real problems, and discovering how inventors and innovators think about; What makes something fly? How do wing shape, weight and angles affect movement through the air? In this hands-on program, young people aged 7–12 become flight explorers, designers and problem-solvers as they build, experiment, test and refine paper planes, gliders and other flying creations. Through practical challenges, they’ll explore lift, drag, thrust, gravity, balance, aerodynamics, propulsion and flight paths, while using maths to measure distance, calculate angles, compare results and improve their designs. Working independently and with others, participants will test ideas, solve problems and learn through experimentation while connecting with other curious homeschoolers. The program is facilitated by one of our key mentors, who brings extensive real-world experience in design, building and innovation. Drawing on practical knowledge of aerodynamics, forces, movement, materials and structural design, he helps participants connect their discoveries with real-world engineering and problem-solving. STEAMakers complements Woodwork and Digital Design & 3D Printing, connecting science, technology, engineering and mathematics with hands-on experimentation and making. Across these programs, participants can investigate ideas, test solutions and apply their discoveries through digital design and practical creation. Together, they build problem-solving skills, creative confidence and the capability to experiment, design, refine and turn innovative ideas into real-world solutions.

  16. IN-PERSON Small Group - Wednesdays: Character Design & Drawing Studio - 4:00–5:00 ticket

Imagine the characters. Draw their personalities. Bring your stories to life. What if a single sketch could become the hero of a comic, the star of an animation or the face of your very own creative business? What if every line you draw helped transform your imagination into characters that people remember? Character Design & Drawing Studio is a creative illustration experience where imagination, storytelling and artistic skill come together. Participants learn to design original cartoon characters with personality, expression and emotion while exploring illustration styles, visual storytelling techniques and creative drawing methods used by professional artists, animators and comic creators. Working in a relaxed and inspiring studio environment, participants discover how shape, proportion, facial expression, body language and movement bring characters to life. As their confidence grows, they create original characters, experiment with artistic styles and transform their ideas into comic strips, graphic stories and visual adventures. Beyond learning to draw, participants begin thinking like illustrators and character designers, using every sketch to solve creative problems, strengthen observation skills and communicate ideas visually. Along the way, they build confidence, persistence and their own unique artistic voice. For younger participants, the experience nurtures imagination, creativity and artistic confidence through engaging projects that celebrate originality. For older participants, it introduces future pathways in illustration, animation, comics, concept art, game design, graphic design, publishing, digital media and the creative industries, while exploring how original artwork can lead to freelance work, commissioned projects and creative businesses. As part of E-Gen’s Creative Pathway, Character Design & Drawing Studio is where many creative journeys begin. Participants can deepen their understanding of character, motivation and storytelling through Life Stories Through the Film Lens, develop characters and stories further in Authors Hub, and bring them to life through Animation Studio and Stop Motion Animation Studio. Ideas can then expand into film, art, design and visual media projects through MAD Creators, creating connected experiences that build creative confidence, storytelling skills and capability across different creative forms.
