Keynote Speaker: Matthew Farr, Populous

We’re proud to welcome Matthew Farr, Associate Principal and Architect at Populous, as our keynote speaker. With more than a decade of experience shaping major venues and precincts across Australia, Hong Kong, China, and South-East Asia, Matthew's portfolio includes the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing, Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, and a range of high-performance and civic projects that emphasise user experience, sustainability, and design-led impact.

At Teulo Talks LIVE, Matthew will present Architecture Activated: How Architecture Shapes Cities, demonstrating how architecture can energise cities, connect communities, and influence lasting change.

The conversation of the night:

Architecture Activated: How Architecture Shapes Cities

Architecture at scale doesn’t just change skylines — it activates entire cities. In this keynote, Matthew Farr of Populous will explore how major sports and entertainment projects can become catalysts for economic growth, cultural connection, and lasting legacy.

Through global case studies, Matthew will share how venues like Kai Tak Sports Park and Climate Pledge Arena are designed to regenerate urban areas, foster inclusivity, and create enduring impact. He’ll also dive into the strategies, leadership skills, and cutting-edge technologies — from digital tools to AI — that make these complex, city-shaping projects possible.

What you’ll take away:

How large-scale projects can promote economies, activate cities, and create new opportunities.
Frameworks for designing venues that foster inclusivity, community, and long-term legacy.
Strategies for integrating culture and place into urban-scale projects.
Project leadership lessons for navigating complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
Insights into how digital technology and AI support legacy-driven outcomes.
