Textiles, Memory and Connection

Join artist Kay Hustwaite for a comprehensive, hands-on creative workshop that delves into memory, storytelling, and connection through textiles. 

This workshop offers an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of textile art while fostering connections with fellow participants in a relaxed and inspiring environment. Whether you wish to explore a new creative avenue or spend a day engaged in storytelling through art, this session aims to stimulate your imagination and provide you with a unique piece crafted by your own hands. 

Participants will receive a kit containing a pre-loved cotton napkin as a stitching base. The artist will have applied a first layer of colour and pattern using common kitchen objects, with recipes provided. In this open-ended workshop, participants will be guided in exploring simple print techniques, stitching, and methods for creating texture and layers in their work. The workshop will draw on participants' inspiration from their memories, sense of place, or the seasons. 

Additionally, the kit includes textile and paper elements such as tea-stained lace, tea bag liners, and vintage book pages printed with rust and coffee for incorporation into their textile artwork. 

Participants are encouraged to bring a small memento to stitch into their artwork, something meaningful and heartfelt, as well as pressed flowers or leaves from their favourite season of the year. 

Kay will demonstrate several options for finishing and presenting your artwork. 

No prior experience is required.
