TGV Sports Sampler Series: Basketball with Queer Sporting Alliance

Price $15 AUD + BF Get tickets

Event description

This event is for transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary people.

About the session:

QSA and TGV are hosting a basketball training session aimed at beginners! The session will involve some fun mini games and an introduction to the rules. Get ready to groove and learn some new skills while jamming to awesome tunes.

Our sessions are designed with beginners in mind, so everyone can participate at their own pace, and take breaks whenever needed.

The session will involve a moderate amount of physical activity but we encourage folk to go at their own pace and take regular breaks – want to walk and skip the running? No problem.

Please wear footwear and clothes you are comfortable to exercise in. If you need additional support for the session (e.g. Auslan interpreter or a designated quiet zone) please let us know one week prior to the session.

About the facilitator:
Queer Sporting Alliance (QSA) is Australia and NZ's largest LGBTIQA+ sporting club. QSA's mission is to ensure LGBTIQA+ folk can access and participate in community sport. QSA pride themselves on creating safe spaces for LGBTIQA+ folk and their allies to play community sport. They are seeking to generate interest in all players in the LGBTIQA+ community (and allies) who are disengaged from sporting activity or looking for a safe space to play sport. They have a strong focus on supporting the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse players.

Refundable deposit: There is a $15 refundable deposit for this session, and as long as you either attend the session or cancel more than 2 days in advance, you will be refunded this cost. If you do not cancel with at least two day's notice, or you do not show up, you will be charged the $15. If you are committed to coming to the session but the $15 fee poses a financial barrier, please contact us at peersupport@tgv.org.au.

Covid safety:

We acknowledge that COVID-19 has an ongoing impact on all members of our communities, especially our immunocompromised and disabled communities.

Below are the strategies we are implementing at every in-person event or gathering to increase our COVID-19 safety and build a culture of community care.

- Free N95/K94 masks are available and wearing is encouraged - let’s keep each other safe!
- Doors and windows will be opened when suitable (bring warm clothes as it can get a little chilly)
- Hand sanitizer
- Air Purification

What can you do to increase COVID-19 safety at our events?

- Complete a COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test prior to attending any of our events
- Feel like you are coming down with a cold or flu? Please stay home and cancel your booking by emailing us
- Bring your favourite mask to wear! (If wearing a mask is accessible for you, noting that this is an active activity so heavy breathing may be involved)
