Th!s is Me
Event description
Challenging sexist narratives of female beauty and conformity.
From an early age womxn are told to be better, be slimmer, be fitter, be prettier, be younger. Media tells us to look a certain way. Patriarchy tells us to behave a certain way. The fashion industry can often typecast, objectify and sexualise us. Rarely do we see womxn that represent the way we look, and show the power we have.
It's time to take back our power.
This is an event that gives womxn a platform to shine. We will showcase all who identify as women. Who have overcome. Who have felt powerless and unworthy.
We warmly invite you all to join us in this celebration. This event will be held on the ancestral lands of the Wurundjeri people. We recognise their elders, particularly women in indigenous communities who are strong role models and inspiration for us.
This event is a womxn led initiative. All decision makers, committee and artists are people who identify as womxn. We are all volunteers. We do this because we love womxn.
We will not only be showcasing the diversity of womxn in fashion and story but there will also be entertainment that is inclusive and appropriate for all age groups and genders.
When purchasing a ticket, you will be supporting the work of Full Circle Social Enterprises. All profits will be directed to a leadership academy in India where girls who are displaced, trafficked and living in impoverished communities can have access to learnings that create employability pathways.
Ticket cost includes entry and entertainment. Drinks and Food will be available for purchase on the day. We will also have a range of awesome quality second hand clothing and accessories for sale as well as stallholders who are in themselves supporting their own respective charities and causes.
Come along and be a part of a movement the celebrates authenticity and recognises the need for a world where we embrace our differences and create doors rather than walls.
Audio Description and Auslan services will be provided. We are proud to be a fully inclusive event.
