    Italian Studies for Global Challenges: Transdisciplinary Conversations

    The 12th Biennial ACIS Conference invites perspectives on Italian Studies as a field of enquiry with a role to play in facing the challenges that continue to intensify in our highly globalised world – those cultural, political, economic, and environmental challenges demanding consideration and bold address.

    Conference: Wednesday 3 July to Saturday 6 July 2024

    Location: Hedley Bull Building, 130 Garran Rd, ANU

    * Early Bird registration ended on 30 April 2024. General registration will close by Sunday 16 June 2024.

    • Full Conference registration (i.e covering all four days): $400.00 AUD (Early Birds) or $550.00 AUD (Full Fee)
    • Full Conference registration (Concession - for students, low-income and Indigenous scholars; Early Birds only): $125.00 AUD
    • One Day registration (any one of the four days): $180.00 AUD
    • Conference Dinner (Fri 5 July, 6:30pm): $110.00 AUD

    (Conference Dinner will take place at Agostinis. The menu will be pescetarian - vegetarian & seafood - and will cater for vegan, vegetarian and GF upon request. Please direct any questions regarding the Conference Dinner to Francesco Ricatti francesco.ricatti@anu.edu.au.)

    • Chiara Beccalossi (Associate Professor in history at the University of Lincoln in the UK)
    • Camilla Hawthorne (Associate Professor of Sociology and Critical Race & Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz)
    • Yasmin Haskell, FAHA (Professor and UNESCO Chair in Intercultural and Interreligious Relations, Monash University)


    Plenary Events:

    • Gracie Lolicato and Jesse Thorpe-Koumalatsos: Making sense of it: Theorising perceptions of difference in life, love, research and art.
    • Wellspring Public Event: We’ve been here. A theatrical performance by Summer Minerva. (Free registration via The Street Theatre is required. Tickets will be available from 21 June.)
    • Italian Indigenous relations: historical and current perspectives


    Special Screenings:

    • The Hidden Spring, followed by Q&A with director Jason Di Rosso
    • Summer Within, followed by Q&A with Summer Minerva
