THE COMPETITION

This is your chance to be crowned as the Australian Finska Champion by competing in the "2020" Australian Finska Championship. 80 teams of two will face off in a competitive quest for Finska glory.  For those in the know, Finska is the seriously addictive outdoor log throwing game with its ancient origins in Finland.

Finska is easy to learn and no prior experience is necessary.  All ages are welcome to participate but there must be two players in each team.

The tournament will consist of two competitive stages, the pool stage and the knockout stage.  During the pool stage teams will face off against every other team in your allocated pool. At the end of the pool stage, the more successful teams will proceed to the knockout stage and playoff for the Australian Championship trophy.  The other teams will also get to play on and compete for the Championship Medallion.  The tournament structure is designed so that all teams irrespective of skill level get to enjoy a full day of competitive Finska fun.

TROPHIES AND PRIZES

Courtesy of Planet Finska, if you are lucky enough to be crowned Australian Finska Champions 2020, you will pick up the prestigious Australian Finska Championship trophy and a very handy winner's cheque for $1000.

The Runners Up will receive a $500 gift voucher that can be used to select a range of games from Planet Finska to that value.

There will also be great prizes for winner and runner up of the Medallion knockout which is being run in the afternoon for those not lucky enough to progress from the pool stage into the Championship knockout rounds.

GAMES, DJ, POP-UP BAR, FABULOUS FOOD AND LUCKY PRIZE DRAWS

To add to the day's festivities we will also have a pop-up bar, DJ Bermuda Social and a fabulous organic food truck on site.  There will also be lucky prize draws throughout the day for both competitors and non-competitors registering before the event.  Our primary sponsor, Planet Finska will be present with Finska and some of their other great outdoor games available to play just for the fun of it.  They will also have some "how to play" sessions scheduled and some great deals on a selection of their excellent outdoor games that can be purchased.

THE VENUE

The event will be held at an iconic and historic harbour location in Waverton, just 3 stops by train from Wynyard Station.  The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability is just a 6 minute walk from Waverton train station and is definitely worth a visit in it's own right to enjoy the water views and learn about this former industrial site that has been given back to the community. It has been transformed into an educational, environmentally focused parkland and community garden in the heart of Sydney. Next to the Coal Loader there are also some excellent bush walks around Balls Head with amazing views of the harbour bridge, city skyline and Opera House.

PARKING

There is limited on-street parking at the venue. We encourage everyone to arrive by train.  It is a 6 minute walk from Waverton Station to the Coal Loader.

TIMING

As we will have a lot of people to check in please come along as close to 9.30am as possible. The tournament begins promptly at 10.30am with a tournament welcome and briefing just before that.  Coffee will be available early to kick start your day.

Please stay for the full day and help us crown the champions.  The competition is scheduled to complete at 5.30pm with presentations around 6.00pm.  The Young Henrys bar will be open until 6.15pm and our awesome DJ Bermuda Social will be pumping out tunes until 6.30pm.

ALCOHOL

As the official beer of Finska, Young Henrys will be serving up the finest Aussie beers and alcoholic beverages on the day.  As we have had to lock down the entire tournament site for Covid-Safety reasons, the entire AFC area will be licenced premises.  Under our liquor licence, attendees may not bring their own alcohol onto the premises. There will be security present on the day to ensure compliance with our event liquor licence and Covid Safety requirements.

WEATHER AND SEATING

Rain Hail or shine we are going ahead so please bring hats, sunscreen and wet weather gear as required.  Also, there will be some seating available but we would encourage you to bring your own folding chair.
TOILETS

The Coal Loader site has regular and disabled toilets available for attendees.  You will be required to check out of our restricted zone to use these facilities.

ALL WELCOME....PLEASE REGISTER

If you are coming to just enjoy the day and watch some talented and not so talented Finska tragics battle it out, we encourage you to register as a spectator so you can be in the draw for our lucky prize draws.

Competitive places are strictly limited so we encourage you to get in fast if you wish to compete.

You are also welcome to email us at AFC@planetfinska.com.au with any event enquiries or questions that you have.
