Event description
Following on from The Art of Being Facilitative Day 1 and 2 in October 2024, we invite participants to bring along upcoming potential facilitation opportunities that help focus activities to real world settings.
Day 3: Reconnection and Preparation
- Group Reconnection and Refresh: Participants reconvene to strengthen group cohesion and revisit the shared learning journey and review the key Adult to Adult tools, frameworks, and approaches from Day 1 & 2 to reinforce foundational skills.
- Context and Co-facilitator Selection: Participants select the focus and context for their facilitation practice, forming co-facilitator partnerships for Day 4 activities.
- Feedback Criteria: Clarification of the criteria for evaluating co-facilitation to ensure meaningful feedback.
- Practical Co-design: Dedicated time for pairs to collaboratively design and prepare their facilitation sessions for Day 4.
Day 4: Facilitation Practice and Feedback
- Co-facilitation Sessions: Each pair of co-facilitators leads their pre-designed sessions with the rest of the group acting as participants. Each pair focuses on managing specific dynamics, applying Adult to Adult tools such as FIDO and the 4 Step approach.
- Feedback and Reflection: Written and face-to-face feedback is provided to each pair during breaks, facilitated by at least two lead facilitators.
- Program Closure: A final session to consolidate learning and close the program.
This format ensures practical application of facilitation skills in real-world contexts, supported by structured feedback and reflection.

About the facilitators
The Art of Being Facilitative Program
The highly successful 4-day program, The Art of Being Facilitative, was co- designed and co-facilitated by Karyn Schluter-White and Julia Zimmerman. It focuses on developing facilitative leadership and relational skills in all participants. Running publicly and in-house from 2006 to 2024, this program continues to be sought after by all sectors locally – university, private, government and community, with deliveries in England in 2023 and some more planned for September this year.
Julia and Karyn work with Niamh Shuley in this space, and they are all passionate about modelling the power of co-facilitation; they share this passion with others; and collaboratively build facilitative expertise and capacity within organisations, businesses, teams, and individuals.
Karyn Schluter-White
Karyn believes in the genuine power of people coming together to achieve their outcomes and in that special spark that ‘being facilitative’ brings to this journey, the people, their relationships, and the results achieved. For over 28 years, Karyn has focused on this belief and has become a highly skilled facilitator, communicator, coach and critical friend. Areas of special interest for her facilitative work have been leadership and team development, strategic and initiative planning, and mediations. She has a strong commitment to co-design and co-delivery, resulting in the exact kind of service and support, that, in these often tricky and complex times, leaders, teams and individuals very much need. Karyn supports people to work to their strengths and to work differently when required. She focuses on building a strong container and scaffolding for safety in conversations that is needed to challenge in ways that can both provoke and stimulate.
Julia Zimmerman
Julia has been an organisational and leadership consultant for more than 28 years. She has worked at all levels within organisations in Australia and New Zealand, in the public, private and community sectors, collaborating with clients to develop leadership and community building capacity, change resilience and high performing teams to ensure business success. Recently she has focused on executive and middle management leadership coaching and on developing facilitative leadership skills at all levels. Julia is a highly skilled facilitator and has facilitated many complex processes including management-union negotiations, government-community consultations, project mapping and review workshops; strategic and operational planning processes; and leadership development programs.
