Description

Join us for a two-part journey into the warmth of ancient craft, connecting hand, heart, and earth to bring light to the colder months.

Event Details:

This immersive series invites you to slow down and rediscover the power of creating functional art. Over two sessions, you will hand-build a ceramic candle holder and dip your own traditional beeswax candles... a ritual of reconnection to our creative power. Weaving together the stories of the "red earth" and the sacred history of the honeybee, we explore how ancient crafts anchor us in a modern world.

The Experience Includes:

  • Workshop 1 (May 31): Hand-building ceramic holders paired with a cacao meditation. We use the pinch and coil technique to externalise our intuition into clay.

  • Workshop 2 (June 7): The rhythmic art of beeswax candle dipping. Learn the story of the hive while crafting 6 long candles, finished with herbal tea and local Waiheke honey.

Takeaway: Each participant leaves with a uniquely glazed ceramic holder, a set of hand-dipped beeswax candles, and a deeper appreciation for natural materials and mindful creativity.

Who: Limited to 10 people, this will be a intimate setting in a peaceful and relaxing environment. No previous experience with clay or wax is required, just bring your desire to create and connect.

Dates: 31/05/26, 7/6/26

Investment: $220 for the full 2-part series (includes all materials, firing, and refreshments).

If you would like to attend but have limited financial needs we ask you to reach out to us via email hello@wearelume.co.nz instead as we might be able to accommodate you.

About the Facilitators

Rachel Bakker (Earth to Stone): A Waiheke-based clay artist, Rachel views ceramics as a meditative practice. With a background from the Woodfired Pottery School and the Dunedin School of Art, her work is organic and intuitive, capturing the way light and shadow dance across surfaces. She believes our hands are the visible extension of our invisible will.

Camila Landgraf (Waiheke Honey Bee / Bee & Ocean): A mother and nature lover, Camila translates the gifts of the hive into daily rituals. Working alongside her partner’s decade-old beekeeping operation on Waiheke, she handcrafts products that honor the tireless dedication of the bees. Her practice is rooted in sustainability and the pure, natural magic of the island.

"Cultural change begins when different stories are told and believed. Stories rooted in place, care and relationship slow us down and invite different ways of living."

Come sit with us, share a cup of cacao, and let your hands remember the ancient language of creation.
