The Artist in the Wine Bar - December - Janice Napper
Event description
An Exhibition by Janice Napper - Eye on Nature
Celebrating the vitality of the natural world
In Eye on Nature, contemporary artist Janice Napper celebrates the vitality and rhythm of the
natural world — especially her homeland New Zealand. Through her distinctive fluid painting style
and mastery of resin she captures the beauty and essence of nature in motion: cascading waterfalls,
birds suspended mid-flight, and delicate blooms that shimmer with colour and energy.
Each artwork invites viewers to pause and reconnect with the living pulse of the world around them
— a reminder of the balance, movement, and wonder found in our deep connection to nature that
sustains and inspires us all.
Janice Napper — Artist Biography
Janice Napper is a contemporary Auckland artist whose work celebrates the vitality, rhythm, and
spirit of the natural world. Originally from Otago she is deeply inspired by the southern landscapes,
light, and beauty of Aotearoa. Themes of renewal and connection weave through her artworks
capturing nature in motion — from cascading waterfalls and birds in flight to the delicate shimmer of
native flora.
Although she studied art at college and always knew she could draw, it wasn’t until the birth of her
second child that Janice felt a strong desire to express her artistic side more fully — and to explore
whether creativity could become her full-time path. That decision, made over twenty years ago, has
evolved into a journey of artistic exploration and growth.
Her creative process combines both spontaneous abstraction and refined realism, guided by
intuition and loose sketches. Balancing these two styles keeps her creativity alive and ever-evolving,
with a constant stream of ideas and never quite enough time to pursue them all.
As an early adopter of resin-based mediums, Janice’s approach is often experimental - pushing her
materials to their limits and embracing the joy and momentum of making. Her use of colour is both
intuitive and deliberate: bold, fluid, and layered to evoke emotion and a sense of wonder.
Her art invites viewers to reconnect with and cherish the world around us — a celebration of colour,
energy, and appreciation for the remarkable nature we have on our doorstep.
