The Avenue Sessions presents Joyce Prescher
Event description
The Avenue Recording Studio is delighted to bring you an afternoon of live music in collaboration with Joyce Prescher.
This show provides you with a unique opportunity to witness what it is like to be inside a recording studio, all while enjoying live music in a beautiful and relaxed space (think wood panels and plants and dim lighting).
Join us for this intimate afternoon, where you get to be part of something truly special and let music take you to a place you haven't been before. This is your chance to step into the world of the artist and get a behind the scenes look at engineers at work. A chance to get up close and personal with the artists you so love.
This live show will be recorded and filmed and potentially broadcast online at a later stage, so while the recording light is on there is less chance to get friendly with your neighbour. However, there will be breaks so you can enjoy some snacks, have a chat and stretch your legs. Think about it. You could be part of an album audience! The options are endless. Sort of.
About the artists:
Now Melbourne based, Joyce Prescher grew up in the Netherlands, where she fell head over heels with music from a young age. She released her debut ‘Home’ in 2017, the album recounting a loneliness that comes from finding yourself in an unfamiliar place. Well received, it put the singer on the map in Australia.
Her music evokes a sense of intimacy that lingers, inspiring repeat listens. With gentle nods to icons like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, she positions herself as a contemporary of artists such as Jessica Pratt, Tiny Ruins, and Joan Shelley, all while crafting her own unique sound.
Joyce was signed to Cheersquad Records & Tapes in 2022, the label charmed by her ‘different’ sound — contemporary, yet clearly inspired by those great 70’s folk artists, with a distinct European vibe. She released her sophomore album, 'Out Of My Mind', shortly after, landing her a spot in the charts. Joyce was a finalist in the AFMA two years in a row, with her latest album nominated contemporary folk album of the year.
With solo shows magical, intimate and breathtaking, she equally sparks when joined by her band where songs take on new shapes, known to make audiences cry, giggle and sometimes sway.
For this show Joyce is joined by two of her two incredible band members - Craig Kelly on double bass and Duncan Yardley on fiddle.
