    Event description

THE AWAKENING OF SPRING by Frank Wedekind is a coming-of-age story about a group of teenagers finding their way in an oppressive society. The story centers around Melchior, an angsty and philosophizing teenage boy, his friend Moritz, a nervous boy, traumatized by puberty and questioning his place in life, and Wendla, a young girl with insatiable curiosity who desperately wants all her questions answered. The cast of characters includes schoolboys and girls who endure a rigorous academic lifestyle and talk about life, death, and sex, parents who don't know the best way to raise them, and teachers who look at them as statistics to control. Written in the late 1800s in Germany, the themes of this groundbreaking and controversial play are still relevant today. Directed by Lauren Katherine Pothier, see the play that inspired the hit Broadway musical Spring Awakening.
