The School of Creative and Performing Arts are proud to present The Banana Bender -the first Tasmanian production of Dickin’s work, performed by graduating students of the Theatre and Performance program.

One minute you’re swearing your arse off, the next you’re pious and righteous. Who the hell are you? What side are you on? 

Regional Queensland, 1980, where the politics is corrupt and the religion is intense. Len Jackson, ‘a religious maniac banana picker’ and his mother Kath live in a shack in Kingaroy, struggling to make ends meet. Len has been caught in the grip of catholic religiosity since his teens. One night he brings home ‘a woman of the opposite sex’ and must make a choice. 

Beloved Melbourne playwright, journalist and cartoonist Barry Dickins takes us on a comic journey into faith, lust and broken dreams in this one act play filled with rough and ready poetry.
