Event description

Step into the enchanting world of "The Best Cabinet Maker," an original musical uncovering the hidden history of Chinese cabinet makers in Melbourne's Little Bourke Street during the late 19th to early 20th century. Follow Ah Chan's journey from Canton to Melbourne, where he trains with master carpenter Ah Mok, facing discrimination as they build a thriving business, and navigating through the challenges of bringing his wife, Ah Moi, into Australia during the era of White Australia Policy.

Set against a backdrop of solidarity and infused with melodies of traditional Chinese instruments erhu, guzheng, dizi and yangqin, this musical is a poignant tale of resilience and unity that echoes across time. Secure your seats today for a journey into the past that will resonate with your heart.

*Please join us for a discussion and feedback session with the creators of "the Best Caninet Maker" musical after the Sunday afternoon performance. We would love to hear what you think of the show.
