    Event description

"Bite deeper into your Big Apple and Level Up your Solo Jazz Game"

This workshop will be a deep-dive into the The Big Apple, the classic solo jazz routine beloved by swing dancers, and made famous by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers. Shehan has done extensive work on the original clips and examines the dance in a way that’s as close to the original as possible.

This session will be ideal for those who already know the Big Apple, at least roughly, or those who are very comfortable with solo jazz and not afraid to learn at a fast pace.

    Schedule:
9:45am - 1:45pm A deep-dive exploration of The Big Apple, with drink/rest breaks along the way. BYO drink bottle. *Please arrive a few minutes before the scheduled start time, to allow for check-in, changing shoes etc, so we'll be ready to dance at 9.45am to get the most out of the session*

    ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:
Shehan’s introduction to Lindy Hop in New Zealand during 2003 was momentous for him, he said: ‘I will never be unhappy again.’ Swing dancing instantly clicked with his high energy, free flowing creative personality, as well as his ‘heart-first’ life philosophy. You can experience this whether he is on the dance floor, leading you through a class or simply having a chat with him. His classes focus on history, rhythm and musicality – guiding you through concepts and tools, helping you find your organic connection to the music and encouraging you to find your own style while staying true to the roots and the rhythm of the dance.

Shehan established the current Lindy Hop scene in Réunion Island (La Panthère Rose) and founded the annual international Swing Dance festival Swingin’ Réunion. In 2017 he was named an Ambassador of Lindy Hop by the Frankie Manning Foundation for his work in Réunion Island, and invited to Herräng Dance Camp.

Shehan has danced and taught around the world – including Australia, Germany, Italy, Colombia, Cuba, Switzerland, Sweden, Mozambique, South Africa and France. He is well known to Swing Patrol director Scott Cupit, who mentored Shehan as he established the Lindy Hop scene in Réunion Island.
