🚩 For Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) individuals, racial trauma is a reality that can't be ignored.

🟤 With the 6-week BIPOC Liberation Circle you will experience live online, an educational understanding of historical, cultural, and generational traumas for BIPOC and how they manifest in our lives.

✊🏿 Through Liberation Psychology psychoeducation, guided meditations, exploring creative modalities, and collective healing exercises, you'll gain insight into your own sense of liberation.

Are you looking for a safe space to heal your racial trauma and explore non-western psychology?

Each week will consist of intentional psychoeducational learning and topics to evoke thoughtfulness, widen our thought process and activate critical thinking in the way we approach identity, racial trauma healing and mental health.

We'll unpack this further with space for a meaningful group discussion.

The final third of the circle will consist of practical, guided activity for group regulation, grounding and collective wellbeing practice.

6-week Circle: What we'll be exploring

What is Liberation Psychology?
How is Liberation Psychology different to Western Psychology?
Who is behind Western Psychology, and is it designed to be BIPOC-inclusive?
De-colonization - what is it and is it possible?
Challenging the narratives behind individualistic ways of being
Inter-dependence and community - what this looks like, how we can restore or cultivate it
Assimilation and cross-culturalism - what is it, and where do I fit here?
Our own internalized biases - Unpacking inherited oppressive and/or racist propaganda
Stereotypes & roles: subjugation vs. liberation and the power of choice
Learned beliefs versus chosen beliefs - I am not enough by default so I need to work twice as hard
Critical thinking application - where does this come from and who does it serve?
Reframing & ownership: I am not the problem, the system culture, is - Handing it back
Trusting what you need - using the body to self-validate

What you will need:

Journaling will be involved, so if you have a physical journal bring it with something to write with, or you can use your phone or laptop for journal entries.

If any other materials are needed you will be made aware in advance.

Please use a computer or laptop for the workshop, with it facing you, if comfortable. Use a desk with some space for this setup.

The commitment to self:

Time: 1.5 hours of your time, every week for 6 weeks

Cost: £210 (approx. $399NZD) + Humanitix fees

Willing to continue the skills, tools and exercises learnt during the course afterwards for continued growth and improved wellbeing

Things to note:

You will have access to a meeting link via email and receive reminder emails 2 days, and 2 hours beforehand. You are welcome to test the link 5-10 minutes beforehand.

There will be a short break in the middle of every meeting, to reduce device-related fatigue and for moving the body.

If you have not received any meeting link close to the circle starting, check your Spam/Junk emails for the access link first, and then get in touch if not there.

Please test your desk setup, laptop and materials beforehand.

Each circle will be recorded and will be available using the event access link. Self recording and screenshots are not permitted.

You can cancel up to 24-hrs prior. Late cancellations or exiting during the course, will not qualify for a refund.

About the Host

Kia ora, my name is Tanisha. I identify as a racialized Black female of Caribbean and European heritage.

Originally from the UK, where I originally trained in Art Psychotherapy, to currently living in New Zealand, I work with a large range of individuals from Maori, Pasifika, East Asian, African, Caribbean, South Asian and pakeha clients in-person and online.

I pride myself in providing future-thinking, innovative methods for delivering therapy that meet the client's needs and capabilities, such as Therapy via Email, Live Messaging and Recordings.

I also facilitate workshops and groups with clients from all over the world, most of whom are in need of a therapist-of-colour that can offer a safe, creative and comfortable space to explore issues around race, sexuality and cultural identity.

The ongoing needs of our communities' continued Mental Health equity advocacy and my own personal POC & MH experiences are the reasons I curate these accessible, educational events, courses and workshops.
