Come and enjoy a family friendly concert to celebrate the end of the summer holidays. Well-loved local blues and soul band, the Safety of Life at Sea sets their course into the setting sun and invites you to gather the family and bring your dinner to the Malachi on the Australia Day weekend (no BYO drinks, all drinks to be purchased at the Malachi).

O’Connell duo Kris Schubert (piano) and Lian Wong (bass) bring their full band (including horn section) up the hill to the Malachi. From their Boatshed studio, the Safety of Life at Sea make music that blends blues, folk and soul. While the character and stories in the songs are all local, the rhythm section takes a leaf out of the books of Stax (Memphis) and Motown (Detroit), and the piano went for a weekend in New Orleans and never really came back. The Safety of Life at Sea have released 3 albums, and their new song ‘Mama Let Me Go’ was released in August 2024. Kris and Lian will be joined by Stephen Helman (guitar), Tony Bibby (drums), Glen Wholohan (tenor sax/clarinet) and Chris Dove (trumpet/trombone)
