The Body as Story: Who Writes Our Bodies?
Description
Who Writes Our Bodies? is an exploratory trauma-informed embodied arts workshop that invites participants to gently explore the stories carried within the body and examine how society shapes our understanding of consent, power, identity, and sexual and gender-based violence. Through guided movement, body monologue, creative reflection, and discussion, participants will consider how media, celebrity culture, social platforms, advertising, music, and public conversations influence the ways bodies—particularly women’s and marginalized bodies—are viewed, valued, and sexualized.
Rather than seeking “right” answers, this workshop encourages curiosity, self-awareness, and personal meaning-making. Participants are invited to move at their own pace, witnessing both themselves and one another within a supportive and survivor-centred environment. This workshop is open to individuals aged 16 and older, including survivors, those who have experienced trauma, and community members seeking to deepen their understanding of embodied healing. Silent participation is always welcome. Participants may choose to observe, journal, draw, or engage in movement as feels appropriate for their body.
