The Breath Gateway
Description
This is not simply seven days of “doing Breathwork.”
The Breath Gateway is grounded in a substantial body of theory and practice exploring the relationship between breath, consciousness, psychology and the body.
The approach draws, among other influences, on the work of Wilhelm Reich and neo-Reichian body-oriented approaches, alongside perspectives on the unconscious, early experience, psychological and emotional patterns, somatic expression and altered states of consciousness.
Over the seven days, you'll be introduced to these different ways of understanding human experience and then have the opportunity to explore them through direct personal experience.
The intention is to bring together intellectual understanding and embodied experience, so that you're not simply learning about yourself, but experiencing yourself in a different way.
YOU KNOW YOURSELF.
BUT DO YOU ACTUALLY FEEL DIFFERENT?
Seven days to explore your life.

THE BREATH GATEWAY
You know a lot about yourself.
But do you actually feel different?
Maybe you've spent years trying to understand yourself.
You've done therapy.
You've read the books.
You've explored personal development.
You know where some of your patterns came from.
You can explain why you react the way you do.
You may even know exactly what you should be doing differently.
And yet...
You find yourself having the same arguments.
Making the same choices.
Holding yourself back in the same ways.
Feeling disconnected from your emotions.
Living more in your head than in your body.
Knowing what you want — but somehow not being able to move towards it.
What if understanding yourself isn't the same as experiencing yourself differently?
What if there is another doorway?
Over many years of working with people through Breathwork, I've repeatedly seen the same thing.
We can understand ourselves intellectually and still remain caught in patterns we can't think our way out of.
Because not everything that shapes us exists at the level of conscious thought.
Some things are experienced through the body.
Through the way we breathe.
Through muscular tension and contraction.
Through emotions we struggle to access.
Through reactions that seem disproportionate to what is happening now.
Through patterns that seem to have been there for as long as we can remember.
The breath offers another doorway.
Imagine giving yourself seven days to go there.
Seven days away from work.
Away from your usual responsibilities.
Away from the constant noise of everyday life.
Seven days to slow down.
To listen to what is happening inside you.
To explore the relationship between your breath, body, emotions, psychology and unconscious experience.
And perhaps to discover something about yourself that you couldn't have discovered simply by thinking about it.
This is The Breath Gateway.
A seven-day personal Breathwork immersion in the Blue Mountains.

This isn't a retreat where you simply learn how to breathe.
It's an invitation to experience what happens when you bring conscious attention to something you've been doing every moment of your life:
breathing.
You'll explore how breath relates to consciousness.
How the unconscious can influence the way we experience ourselves.
How psychological patterns can be expressed through the body.
How early experiences may continue to influence the way we relate to ourselves and others.
And what can happen when you stop trying to understand everything from the outside...
and begin to experience it from within.
What we explore
This retreat draws particularly from the Foundation of the Inspired Breath training — Journey to the Roots of Breathwork and Maps of Consciousness. The syllabus moves between theoretical understanding, direct experience and embodied practice.
BREATH & CONSCIOUSNESS
What happens to your experience when you deliberately change the pace, depth and awareness of your breathing?
We'll explore the breath as a doorway into different states of awareness — and into a deeper understanding of your own experience.
THE UNCONSCIOUS
There are parts of ourselves we know consciously.
And there are parts we don't.
We'll explore how experiences outside ordinary awareness can continue to influence the way we think, feel, behave and inhabit our bodies.
THE BODY
Sometimes the body tells a story the mind hasn't found words for.
We'll explore muscular holding, contraction, breathing patterns and other ways psychological experience can be expressed through the body.
BIRTH & EARLY IMPRINTING
We'll explore theories concerning birth, early experience and psychological imprinting — and consider how our earliest experiences may influence the way we meet the world.
SHOCK & TRAUMA
We'll explore different perspectives on shock and trauma and their relationship with the body and breath. The wider Inspired Breath syllabus draws on body-oriented approaches and work including Peter Levine and David Berceli.
MAPS OF CONSCIOUSNESS
What happens when ordinary consciousness changes?
We'll explore different ways of understanding human experience, including the biographical, pre/perinatal and transpersonal perspectives associated with Stanislav Grof.
CONSCIOUS CONNECTED BREATH
And ultimately, we move beyond talking about the breath.
You experience it.
And this is where the real work begins.
You won't spend seven days sitting in a classroom listening to someone talk about Breathwork.
The day moves between:
Teaching
Conscious Connected Breathwork
Somatic and bioenergetic practices
Reflection
Group sharing
Integration
Time in nature
The current sample day, for example, moves from morning grounding and bioenergetic movement into teaching on breath and the unconscious, a full Conscious Connected Breathwork journey, integration and evening exploration of Maps of Consciousness.
Knowledge. Experience. Integration.
That's the rhythm.
What might become possible for you?
We're not going to promise you a particular outcome.
Because your experience will be your own.
But imagine...
Feeling more connected to your body.
Being able to stay present with emotions rather than automatically moving away from them.
Recognising patterns as they arise rather than simply understanding them afterwards.
Having a deeper relationship with yourself.
Feeling something you haven't allowed yourself to feel for a long time.
Discovering parts of yourself you've kept at a distance.
Having a clearer sense of what matters to you.
And perhaps walking away with the feeling:
“Something has shifted.”
Not because somebody told you who you are.
But because you experienced yourself differently.
You don't need to be broken.
This isn't only for people who are struggling.
You might simply have a feeling that there is more of you available.
More aliveness.
More emotional depth.
More connection.
More freedom.
More capacity to experience your life rather than constantly analysing it.
You might not even be able to put your finger on what you're looking for.
That's okay.
You don't need to.
You just need to be curious enough to explore.
Is this you?
You might be ready for The Breath Gateway if...
You've done therapy and personal development but still feel there is another layer.
You understand yourself intellectually but keep repeating familiar patterns.
You spend a lot of time in your head.
You feel disconnected from your body or emotions.
You want to experience Breathwork at a much deeper level than a one-off session.
You're curious about consciousness and the unconscious.
You want seven days away from your normal environment to genuinely explore yourself.
You're interested in the possibility of continuing into professional Breathwork training — but you don't need to make that decision now.
You don't need previous Breathwork experience.
What you do need is a willingness to participate in a deep experiential process. Your current Humanitix FAQ already makes this distinction, saying the retreat is accessible to newcomers while asking participants to be psychologically ready for the depth of the experience.

Why Inspired Breath?
The depth of this retreat comes from the depth of the work behind it.
Inspired Breath was founded by Phil Morey and Suzanne Zankin, who bring more than 40 years of combined experience in Breathwork, body-based therapies and transformational practice.
The Inspired Breath training itself is structured as a residential journey, moving through Journey to the Roots of Breathwork & Maps of Consciousness, Love, Sex & Death, Ghosts of the Ancestors, and Evolution & The Next Step.
Phil is an Accredited Trainer with the Australian Breathwork Association, and the practitioner program is designed around a substantial residential and experiential training process.
The Breath Gateway brings that depth of experience into a seven-day personal immersion.
You don't have to become a practitioner.
You don't have to commit to further training.
Come because you want to explore yourself.
And if something opens up...
The seven days may leave you wanting to go further.
For some people, that means simply taking what they've experienced back into their lives.
For others, it may spark an interest in becoming a Breathwork practitioner.
If that happens, there's a pathway.
The Breath Gateway can serve as an entry point into the Inspired Breath Practitioner Training.
But you don't have to decide that now.
First, come and experience the work.
