The Case for the Voice to Parliament

The Revesby Workers' Club's Light on the Hill Society invites you to join prominent advocate Thomas Mayo, respected journalist Kerry O'Brien and Yes23 Voice to Parliament Campaign spokesperson Jade Appo-Ritchie as they discuss the details of an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

In late 2023, Australians will vote in a referendum that will ask if we want to change our Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. The Voice would be an independent advisory body of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that gives advice to the Australian Parliament and Government on matters that affect their lives.

This is your opportunity to hear from three leading Australians who have thought carefully about why they support the Voice to Parliament, its recognition of 65,000 years of Indigenous culture, and what it would mean for our country.

Led by Jade, Kerry and Thomas will answer all your questions to help you decide how you will vote in the referendum.

Thomas Mayo and Kerry O’Brien are the authors of the bestselling book The Voice to Parliament Handbook: All the detail you need.

Thomas Mayo is a Kaurareg Aboriginal and Kalkalgal, Erubamle Torres Strait Islander man. He is the Assistant National Secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia, a member of the First Nations Referendum Working Group and a signatory of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Kerry O’Brien is a highly respected Australian journalist and author whose career includes 28 years as a national current affairs television presenter and interviewer.

Jade Appo-Ritchie is from the Bunda Clan of the Gooreng Gooreng Nation and grew up on her Grandmother’s Country – Bundaberg, QLD. She had a 20-year career in the public sector before joining Tellus Holdings.
