At a time when international tensions are rising, from Ukraine to the Middle East and beyond, the role of the UN in maintaining peace and security is under more scrutiny than ever. With over 60 peace operations active worldwide, peacekeeping remains one of the UN’s most vital yet pressured tools.

In this session, we’ll cover:

The current state of global conflicts and what this means for peace operations.
The evolving role of the UN in peacekeeping amidst political divides and resource cuts.
The impact of new technologies (AI, drones, cyber) on peace operations.
Lessons from past missions in Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Timor-Leste, and Namibia.
What the future holds and Australia’s role in shaping effective peace operations.

Speaker: Major General Tim Ford AO (Ret’d)
Over 40 years of service in the Australian Defence Force, UN Military Adviser, former Head of UNTSO, and Director of UNAA NSW.
