Loukas Haniotis is an actuary by trade, and moonlights as a composer and pianist. His music varies in style, drawing inspiration from all corners of music history but particularly music of the 19th and 20th centuries. In his music, he hopes to convey complex states of mind, and map the journeys of the human psyche.

Cri de Coeur was inspired by the lush, wandering harmonies of the late Romantic period. The piece meanders between various contrasting melodies. At times these melodies are whispered and solitary, and at others cried with full force; representing the various emotional states of a cry from the heart, after which this piece is named. Though the piece is slow and static, the forward momentum of the journey is generated from the shifting and evolving harmonies; sometimes consoling, sometimes helpless, and at the end, with the bleak realisation that maybe there is no help coming after all.
