The Charlotte Center Forum featuring J. Lenore Wright, Ph.D
Event description
Participate in the important questions of our time. The Forum is a conversation and speaker series that brings people together to explore challenges and opportunities that affect human flourishing through the lens of the humanities and civic imagination.
You’re invited to the September 26, 2023 gathering of The Forum featuring J. Lenore Wright, Ph.D! Dr. Wright is Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Philosophy at Baylor University and the author of Athena to Barbie: Bodies, Archetypes, and Women's Search for Self.
You've seen Stereotypical Barbie. You've considered her journey and the patriarchy. You've even pondered whether Ken is enough. Interested in taking the conversation up a notch? Join us for Next Level Barbie!  What would Simone de Beauvoir, mid-century French existentialist and author of The Second Sex, say about Barbie coming to life? Is Barbie good for women? How does capitalism shape how women present themselves? You're invited to a provocative conversation on the many dimensions of being a woman in the 21st century.
Connect. Consider. Ignite. Doors open at 5:30 to mix and mingle. The program runs from 6:15 PM to 8:00 PM including time for conversation, connections, and Q&A.
The Forum has a three-part structure:
• First third: Participants connect in small break-out groups prompted by a question;
• Middle third: Participants consider a presentation by a guest speaker that ends with a question posed to the audience;
• Final third: Participants discuss the question, igniting new ideas and possibilities.
