Join us for an information session at the IMA, where we will run you through all things related to applying for ‘The Churchie’.

Hear from this year's emerging guest curator Sebastian Henry-Jones, who will share his thoughts on the prize and his personal approach to curation. Following Henry-Jones’ remarks there will be a Q&A session where you can connect with the IMA team and ask any questions you have about the application process.

About 'The Churchie'⁠

Since its inception in 1987 at Anglican Church Grammar School, The Churchie Emerging Art Prize has provided a platform to profile the next generation of contemporary artists from across Australia.

In 2023, the IMA will present the 35th edition of the Prize, marking the fifth presentation partnership between the two organisations.⁠

⁠Thanks to generous supporters, ‘The Churchie’ offers a prize pool of $25,000, with the overall winner receiving a non-acquisitive $15,000 cash prize donated by longstanding sponsor, BSPN Architecture.⁠

Finalists will be selected based on the strength of their practice and will work with guest curator Sebastian Henry-Jones to determine the work/s to be exhibited in the finalists' exhibition at the IMA from 20 May–19 August 2023.

The gallery entrance is on the ground floor of the Judith Wright Arts Centre, on Berwick Street. There is wheelchair access and an accessible toilet with baby changing facilities also located on the ground floor. We welcome guide and support dogs.
