Crisis Room: Pacific | A Climate & Security Simulation

Climate change isn’t only an environmental issue. It’s a human, economic and geopolitical security crisis, and it’s a big part of why the Pacific is taking centre stage at COP31.

Running alongside the UN climate conference, this 90-minute simulation from the United Nations Association of Australia Young Professionals and People Planet Pint (PPP) puts you inside the crisis rather than in front of another panel.

How it works
You’ll be placed in a crisis cell: water and food security, displacement and sovereignty, infrastructure and logistics, or energy security. You’ll start with a fictional Pacific community, including its people, geography, essential services, vulnerable groups, resources and existing climate risks. Then the situation escalates. Your team will have to make decisions under pressure, weigh trade-offs and work with the other cells to keep the community safe.

Why it matters
Climate risk doesn’t stay in one lane. It reaches into health, business, government, humanitarian response, finance, insurance, supply chains and community services. This exercise brings those connections to life across SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

Anyone curious about how climate shapes security and resilience in our region. You don’t need a climate or sustainability background. Different perspectives make the conversation stronger and the insights wiser.
