Climate Security in the Pacific: Why It Matters to Everyone

Climate change is no longer just an environmental issue — it is a human, economic and geopolitical security crisis, and it sits at the heart of why the Pacific is taking centre stage at COP31.

Hosted by the United Nations Association of Australia Young Professionals, this hybrid event explores the climate and security nexus unfolding across our region. Together, we’ll unpack critical questions such as: Why do Small Island Developing States face existential threats to their sovereign maritime zones? Why does the Pacific Resilience Facility matter? And why is Australia bringing world leaders together in Tuvalu and Fiji ahead of COP31 in Antalya?

Whether you work in security, business, government, health, finance or another sector, you’ll discover why climate security is everyone’s business — from supply chains and insurance to health systems and energy grids.

Participants will leave with one practical resilience question to take back to their own organisation’s risk conversations.
