    Event description

"Fun, energetic and full of ideas"
    - John Cleese
“Kate Smurthwaite is smart and funny and outrageous all at the same time. If you miss her show, you're only hurting yourself." - Tom Ballard

Kate Smurthwaite invites us to contemplate whether being foot soldiers in the death march of disaster capitalism is really as much fun as we hoped. Join the comedian and activist for a brilliant (achievable) alternative future. With punchlines. A mixture of incisive political comedy and thought-provoking hilarious storytelling. A show about how the status quo is not inevitable and how different things could be with just a little imagination.

You’ve probably seen Kate Smurthwaite pop up on YouTube or Instagram or in a video your mate sent round saying something insightful and funny or calling out Piers Morgan or other right wing pundits on debate shows and her own online seriesNews At Kate. She has been touring comedy shows and sticking it to “the man” for two decades.

During that time she has appeared on over 2000 TV and radio shows from Question Time to The Bachelor. In 2013 she was a ThreeWeeks Editors’ Choice award winner (they called her a ‘Fringe Institution’). She has written for Have I Got News For You? and BBC3’s BAFTA-winning The Revolution Will Be Televised, as well as for New InternationalistThe GuardianThe IndependentThe TelegraphThe Mirror, Cosmopolitan and Stylist. She also had her own show on BBC Radio 2.

Fire Snake will be at Perth FringeWorld before it comes to Hobart and will head on to Adelaide Fringe right after (then back to the UK for more UK tour dates).
