Description

The focus of this course is to broaden your knowledge, extend & hone your skills, and to further explore this exciting medium. It is aimed at printmakers with some knowledge and experience in creating and printing collagraph plates. 

The tutor will discuss your ideas with you, suggest and advise ways to implement those ideas, as well as provide technical assistance in inking and printing your plates, and demonstrate plate preparation based on the needs of the group. 

This course is limited to 4 participants. Minimum 3 to proceed. 

What students need to bring: 

Images & ideas to work with, or work on ideas during day 1..

Any plates you may wish to print, re-use, modify or recycle.

Your own printmaking paper suitable for intaglio. The tutor will have some available for purchase.

Any printmaking inks you wish to use. 

Disposable gloves for printing sessions 

Paint shirt or apron

Wear closed-in shoes for safety. Refreshments, lunch and snacks.

Materials: The tutor will provide mat board, PVA glue, a selection of art mediums, an assortment of textured papers, some plant matter, a small selection of inks and other materials. Participants are also encouraged to bring along any materials for plate making. This may include things like textured or embossed papers, lace, netting, pressed leaves etc - things that are fairly flat, not too thick and bulky. 

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Valé is passionate about printmaking with a focus on lino printing, collagraphy, solar plate etching, and fabric screen printing. Valé holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in printmaking. She exhibits regularly and has been printmaking for over 20 years. Vale is a member at the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop and the Make Space collective in Newcastle. Valé often draws inspiration from her prints to incorporate them into her handmade bag designs for her local business Inknot.
