"The Conversation about Modern Manhood" - An Evening with Dave Kramer

Year 10 students and their fathers/paternal figure are invited to our upcoming special event: "The Conversation about Modern Manhood" - An Evening with Dave Kramer.

About the event

What does it mean to be a man? It's a question our sons are already answering — shaped by sport, social media, their peers, and the men in their world.

Teenage boys are navigating more than most of us realise: pressure to be tough; to 'have it together'; to not need anyone. Often, they're doing this alone — not because they don't want connection, but because the world has told them that going it alone is the only way to prove yourself.

This workshop will create a different kind of space. Together with your son, you'll explore the unwritten rules of masculinity — where they come from, what they cost, and what we miss if we don’t expand our opportunities for manhood. 

You don't need to have it all figured out. In fact, it helps if you don't.

Come as you are. Leave closer than you arrived.

Other information

• This event is intended as a continuation of our Year 9 Becoming Men program, and our Respectful Relationships curriculum, which all TC students take part in during their secondary education at TC.

• Year 10 students must be accompanied by their father/paternal guardian in order to attend this event.

• On this occasion, attendance is limited to current Trinity College families in the Year 10 cohort.

• All proceeds from this event will be donated to Small Steps 4 Hannah, an Australian charity that works to raise awareness and educate the community to identify coercive control behaviours and halt the cycle of domestic and family violence.

About Dave Kramer

Dave Kramer is a behavioural scientist whose mission is to raise the standard of how men and boys show up for each other. Having spoken with tens of thousands of young men all over Australia (as well as thousands of fathers across multiple workforces), Dave hears all too often about the harmful unwritten rules, the need to fit in, and the feeling of being stuck in survival. None of these boys created the rules, and despite their objection to them, many of them still feel the pressure to play by them.

Navigating this pressure is harder than ever because young people today are facing unique challenges that the adults they look up to never had to face. The online world holds a powerful grip on their lives, and without open conversation, disrespect quickly thrives.

Dave has a deep recognition that the boys he works with, and the people they look up to, want something better. This Conversation brings this shared feeling into perspective and creates an opportunity to connect, challenge the status quo, and set a standard that supports everyone to thrive.
