The Correspondent: book club + letter writing workshop
Description
What if we brought back the lost art of writing a proper letter?
Join Spilt Wine Book Club x The Gentle Exchange for a social afternoon of books, wine and letter writing, inspired by Virginia Evans’ The Correspondent.
We’ll start with a relaxed book club discussion of The Correspondent, getting stuck into the wonderfully quirky, prickly and very loveable Sybil Van Antwerp, before The Gentle Exchange takes us into a guided letter-writing session.
Inspired by Sybil’s love of correspondence, you’ll put pen to paper and write a letter of your own. To an author, someone you love, someone you’ve been meaning to reconnect with, or whoever you feel deserves a proper letter.
And this one won’t be going into a drawer. We’ll provide the materials and postage so your letter can actually make its way into the world, and hopefully some meaningful communication can follow.
Books. Wine. Letters. A little more connection.
The book
Current read: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
Meet Sybil Van Antwerp: 73, retired, fiercely opinionated and a lifelong letter writer. Through her correspondence with friends, family, authors and strangers, we slowly uncover the story of her life, her relationships and the things she has left unsaid.
Make sure you read the book beforehand as we’ll be discussing it at the session!
