Costs of Climate Change: Implications and Challenges for Local Government

A free seminar to consider the costs of coming climate changes, especially heatwaves and flooding and sea level rise in Port Phillip. These pose huge financial and other challenges for Local Government Authorities and highlight the need for a National Climate Adaptation Fund.

Speakers

• Rod Campbell, Research Director, The Australia Institute, will talk about his report on climate adaptation costs. Rod is also a local St Kilda West resident.

• Mitzi Tuke, Nillumbik Climate Action Group, will speak about their advocacy with Nillumbik Council to support a national climate compensation fund to help councils and local communities meet the costs of climate impacts.

• Alex Makin, Mayor, City of Port Phillip, will discuss the specific issues and challenges that our local council is addressing.

This event is jointly organized by the Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network and the Port Phillip EcoCentre.
