The Cowara Bird Project
Event description
Cowara Bird Project 2023
Have you ever heard the Wardandi story of the Cowara bird? The purple crowned lorikeet. The bird the town of Cowaramup was named after.
COMING SOON! In November 2023 this story will be told and performed by local children. Weaving Stories of Boodja presents a contemporary movement/dance adaptation of the story that will premiere at a free performance the weekend of Saturday 18/ Sunday 19 November 2023 at the Amphitheatre at Pioneer Park.
We are looking for primary aged children, between Year 1 and Year 6 to be a part of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
We will be holding Wednesday afterschool and school holiday workshops at Cowaramup Primary School in Terms 3 & 4, starting Wednesday 16 August and finishing on Wednesday 15 November between 3:45 – 5pm, before our final performance on the weekend of Saturday 18/ Sunday 19 November 2023 at the Amphitheatre in Pioneer Park.
The workshops will include:
- movement / dance
- puppetry
- sound
- costume/ stage/ prop design and creation
Registration is $25 (non refundable) which will go towards materials for costumes and props / production costs.
The timetable for workshops and important dates can be viewed on our website weavingstoriesofboodja.com. We strongly encourage participation in the full program but understand if your child is unable to attend 1-2 sessions.
*For those who are unable to attend the after-school workshops: The school holiday program may be attended casually and will be uploaded to our website for registration separately closer to the date.
For those wishing to sign up for the full program, our consent & waiver form can be viewed on our website weavingstoriesofboodja.com and must be completed in full, signed and returned via email or in person by Wednesday 16 August 2023 for your child to be able to participate in the first workshop.
