The Craft of Mending: Sashiko Workshop

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese stitching technique developed to strengthen and extend the life of clothing. In this 3-hour hands-on workshop, we'll cover the basics of Sashiko stitching and show how it can be used to repair worn fabric while learning about the stories behind traditional patterns. Expect a calm, social space with plenty of time to practice, chat, and stitch.

You will learn:

• Reinforcing fabric with decorative repair
  
  

• Caring for and extending the life of garments
  
  

Participants will practice on fabric samples and may bring a garment to mend. This workshop emphasizes mindful stitching, sustainability, and the beauty of visible repair.

No prior sewing experience required. Materials provided.

• A sampler of personal sashiko explorations.

• A sashiko kit including patterns, snips, needles and a selection of threads
