Allow your artistic side to unfurl through the cut-and-paste art form of collage! Famous artists like Matisse and Picasso have used collage, but it's an incredibly accessible technique that's open to anyone. You can make it as simple or as detailed as you wish.

Our teacher Kym will run us through some exercises that help to jump in and explore, and also provide scope and boundaries to work to. But of course you can choose your own direction, too.

You don't need to be able to draw or paint to make collage: all you need is a glue stick, scissors and a sense of fun. In fact, you don't even need the scissors, because tearing paper can work beautifully too. Come and give it a go!

What materials do I need?

To follow along in Kym's collage class we ask that you have

3 magazines of different styles/topics/themes
3x pieces of A4 paper or cardboard (we recommend white or cream in colour and ideally 150-200gsm)
A glue stick
Scissors

Who will be Teaching?

For most of her life, Kym thought artists were just lucky people who were born knowing how to draw.
Ever since she discovered that drawing was a skill you could actually learn, she’s been throwing herself into art classes with a passion.
Attending public programs at the National Art School in Sydney led by professional artists, she has studied drawing, painting, printmaking, paper-making and paper sculpture. She has exhibited her work at several private shows. She fell for collage after attending classes by Melbourne artist Minna Gilligan and loves every aspect of it, from the cutting and glueing, to the curious results it can produce.

Kym reckons that everyone has a creative streak and now she wants to foster creativity in others. She’s also interested in environmental sustainability, which makes upcycling materials through collage a perfect fit for her.
Throughout her working life, Kym has been a writer and publicist.
She recently turned her hand to teaching, starting out with a collage course in her local community.
