Event description

Join us for a Brisbane Winter's afternoon as The Crooked Road Home delivers Jackie Marshall, Skye Staniford, and Melissa Fraser back to their cherished place of friendship and music.

Each of these artists has been shaped by extraordinary, unique and diverse journeys. From dusty highways to red carpet, remote seas to rock n roll byways, their unique detours and discoveries have led them to this place in time.

Come along and hear tales unfold in song, amongst friends, as these three voices find their way home once more, the crooked way around.

Jackie Marshall

A true Australian original, Jackie Marshall is a singer-songwriter, composer and actor whose music spans alt-country, folk, and rock with a distinctively personal and poetic writing style. Trained in jazz vocals at the Queensland Conservatorium, her debut album "Fight n'Flight" was shortlisted for the prestigious Australian Music Prize alongside The Drones and Gotye.

A veteran of several cancer battles, Jackie received widespread community support during her 2016-17 treatment. She recently made her acting debut starring in and composing music for "Three Chords and the Truth" (2023). Known for performances that brim with energy and authenticity, Jackie shows up unapologetically, giving others permission to do the same.

Skye Staniford

Skye Carmen Staniford is a Brisbane singer-songwriter whose voice has been described as lilting "from some celestial heaven." As co-vocalist with the critically acclaimed band We All Want To alongside Tim Steward (Screamfeeder), she's helped create music balancing poppy punk, sweet folk and gritty blues.

An accomplished writer with clever wordplay and memorable melodies, Skye penned standout tracks like "Shine" and "A La Mode." Beyond music, she also works as a poet with Red Room Poetry, representing Brisbane's tradition of thoughtful songwriting that follows in the footsteps of The Go-Betweens.

Melissa Fraser

For almost two decades, Brisbane's Melissa Fraser has been gracing stages with her unforgettable vocals and remarkable versatility. Known for her country-oriented sound infused with pop stylings, she's released solo albums including "Stay On The Road" (2018) and "Crooked Purple Lines" (2015).

Melissa's collaborative spirit shines through her work with diverse artists including Jackie Marshall, We All Want To, and currently with Tom Curtain's award-winning Katherine Outback Experience. She's also part of the acclaimed trio Wildflowers, celebrating the music of Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.
