Event description

The Damage is Done is a gripping and intimate one-person performance that delves into queerness, sisterhood, and immigrant family dynamics. At its heart is Isadora, a young queer woman growing up with her sister, Kristina ‘Kris,’ in a tight-knit Italian-Australian family. When a devastating secret about Kris surfaces, Isadora makes the bold decision to come out, thinking nothing could be more scandalous. She’s wrong.

Through sharp wit, emotional vulnerability, and powerful storytelling, The Damage is Done lays bare the tangled web of identity, love, shame, and the complex truths we inherit and resist.

Deus Ex Femina will be hosting this work-in-development showing during their 2025 Goodwood Theatre & Studio’s Residency, titled ‘Audentes Fortuna luvat‘ (Fortune Favours the Bold).

Deus Ex Femina is an independent theatre company passionately committed telling stories of genuine and authentic representation. Founded by award-winning creative Katherine Sortini, Deus Ex Femina is dedicated to producing original, provocative, heartfelt, and challenging theatre.

We have a few goals. Our first goal is for the audience. We want you to have a good time. We aim for you to be engaged, entertained, and along the way, you might learn something about the world, yourself, or the people around you. Sometimes we aim to break your heart, and other times we want you to laugh out loud with us, but at the core, we want you to feel these stories and these characters and their circumstances.

Our second goal is to our artists. We strive to create a space where every artist feels welcome and can collaborate with the company. We are committed to producing at least one show per year that offers equal opportunities. We also aim to create work where our artists can be seen as collaborators. Every artist working with the company has input into the script, the direction, and the acting, and we view every creative as a key collaborator in our work.
