The Dave Winner Beach to Bombie Swim

The Dave Winner Beach to Bombie Swim’ will take place on Sunday the 9th of March, 2025 at Coalcliff Beach at 12.00 pm with the race briefing at 11.45 am. The event is delivered with full Surf Life Saving Water Safety support by Coalcliff SLSC and is swum over a course from 1.5 to 2km in length.

The event is a tribute to Dave Winner who survived a near drowning and spinal injury while surfing at Coalcliff beach that has left him a partial quadriplegic, in 2021. “Knocked unconscious and submerged underwater for more than three minutes, Dave's life hung in the balance. Thanks to the swift actions of bystanders and their proficiency in CPR, Dave was rescued and airlifted to safety.” Dave is a Life Member of Coalcliff SLSC and is a winner of multiple Surf Life Saving Awards and accolades.

Dave continues to be a Patrol Captain and the club’s chief training officer. Dave’s courage, resilience, and tenacity as he continues to recover from his accident has been an inspiration to so many people who have heard his story.

Competitors and friends are invited to join Dave for lunch at Wombarra Bowlo after the event. The event is sponsored by Ohana Ocean Athletics and Equilibrium Healthcare. Entry for the public is $25, which includes a swim cap, insurance, and timing bracelet.
