The Dorado Experiment are returning to the West Coast for a special night at Hokitika’s Regent Theatre.

The Whakatū Nelson five-piece have already made their mark on the Coast, following packed and memorable performances in Granity and Barrytown. Their most recent Granity show became a particularly wild affair, with huge psychedelic riffs, soaring vocals, deep grooves and extended improvisational jams eventually leading to a second encore as the crowd refused to let the night end.

The response made one thing clear: the West Coast is ready for The Dorado Experiment.

And now the band are bringing their full live experience to Hokitika.

The Dorado Experiment create original music that sits somewhere between psychedelic rock, blues, progressive grooves and immersive soundscapes. With influences ranging from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Cream to The Doors and Santana, their sound draws from classic psychedelic and blues-rock traditions while pushing into something more spontaneous and contemporary.

At the centre of the band's live performance is a balance between carefully crafted songs and substantial improvisation. Riffs expand, grooves evolve, guitar lines soar and atmospheric soundscapes build around the band, creating performances that are different every time they take the stage.

This is a band at their best in a live room, where the energy of the audience becomes part of the experiment.

Following their packed West Coast shows, The Dorado Experiment return for what promises to be a proper kicker of a night at the Regent Theatre.
