Event description

Dramawerkz is hoping to keep growing in 2024: providing more opportunities, experiences and training to young people in Melbourne's west. We pride ourselves on being a place where young people can make art that excites them, in an inclusive, kind and accessible environment. Since becoming a non-profit in 2019, we've helped kids access performing arts universities, taken troupes on camps and regional performance tours, provided classes for 8-25 yr olds, and performed at local community events. To make sure that any kid from the west can access our classes and programs, we've kept classes as inexpensive and flexible as possible, and our team have been thrifty, scrappy and homemade when bringing our projects to life. But we want to do some cool stuff this year, so we're asking our community for help.

Join us for some good tunes and the chance to support young people making art in the west. We'll have some great bands opening (Hazy Skies, more to be announced) and a special set by two of our Directors (Chris Rothwell and Mia Boonen), as they take the stage to sing a bunch of duets about divorce. There'll be a raffle and some other fun things too, and we'll be thankful for every foot in the door that lets us make good things happen for our students. Bring a friend, an enemy, a neighbour, a partner, and even your mum: it's going to be a good time.

This event, as well as all of Dramawerkz's classes, is taking place on Boonwurrung Country. We'd like to acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of these lands and extend our gratitude to the elders and ancestors who have cared for this land, its waterways and its stories for more than 80,000 years. Sovereignty was never ceded, and no treaty has ever been signed. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
